Bollywood? What’s that?
An exciting and energetic dance inspired by the Indian Cinema scene, Bollywood-style dance is a form that encompasses old and new traditions within Indian folk dance and fusing it with modern hip-hop movements. Sure to get your heart rate going!
What to Expect
Please wear comfortable, yet fitted, top and pants to class. You’ll also need a pair of indoor exercise shoes or sneakers. There’s some floor work, including kneeling, so if you’re having difficulties speak to Sanchita and work out an alternative movement that’s comfortable for you. Bollywood is fast paced, energetic and will pump your heart rate to some great beats and rhythms.

BollyKidz: Bollywood for Youth
Bollywood Fundamentals for Youth - Ages 5-12This class is for youth ages 5-12. It will teach students foundation movements of Traditional Indian Dance forms, as well as numerous Mudras - a sanskirt word for hand and arm movements. This class will give students a history lesson, a music, lesson as well as a dance lesson. Students will work on Traditional Indian combinations leading up to a group choreography, if time permits.
Class Length: Varies each term. Typically 60 minutes weekly. 5 weeks only. Skill Level: Beginners, youth ages 5-12. Please Wear: Yoga/exercise pants and a fitted top, indoor footwear (sneakers suggested). Please Bring: A water bottle is suggested.
Bollywood: Fundamentals
Foundation Movements & Classical Indian Dance
Prerequisites: None Class Length: 60 minutes weekly Semesters: Fall, Winter Spring
This class is a perfect beginning to delve into the beautiful colors of Bollywood dance. It will teach students foundation movements of Traditional Indian Dance forms, as well as numerous Mudras - a sanskirt word for hand and arm movements. This class will give students a history lesson, a music, lesson as well as a dance lesson. Students will work on Traditional Indian combinations leading up to a group choreography, if time permits.
Bollywood: Basics & Choreography
Fusing Modern Dance: Bollywood!
Prerequisites: Bollywood Beginners Class Length: 60 minutes weekly Semesters: Fall, Winter Spring
This is a natural progression from Bollywood: Fundamentals. It expands on the techniques learned for Traditional Indian Folk Dance and reinforces them with more complex combinations, adding in expression and creating muscle memory for this meaningful dance. Bollywood Intermediates will begin working on more hip-hop influenced Indian Dance known as Bollywood. In this class students will learn a group choreography that is exciting and intricate.
