Bellydance
About Bellydance
Bellydance? What’s that?
Gypsy-style movements reflect the myriad of cultural influences that have become part of this ancient dance form. It is an earthy, organic and emotionally-driven dance rooted in Eastern Europe. Bellydance is a finely tuned dance composed of movements that are natural to the body, and develops a deep control of the arms, torso and especially the abdomen muscles. A great full-body workout that emphasizes and enhances the feminine form, and is great for women of all ages, shapes and sizes.
What to Expect
Each class will guide you through finding those muscles you knew you had but could never find and putting them to good use. You will progress and build on the techniques you learn and be dancing right from the first class! Depending on which class you take, you will also learn a short choreography to take away and show your friends and family!
Students should wear a long, flowing skirt, a comfortable top, and a scarf or coin belt wrapped at the hips to show movement. Alternatively exercise clothes will also be acceptable attire for class. We dance barefoot, so there is no need for special shoes, however if you wish to wear light dance slippers, feel free to do so. Though it is by no means necessary to show your midriff in class, some students do, as it is much easier to see the muscles and definition of their abdomen while learning technique.
Please see our list of classes below to read class descriptions and class offerings. Please note that not all of these classes are offered each semester.
